MARIO GRIGOROV, COMPOSER Son of a concert pianist and trumpeter, Mario Grigorov entered the Sophia Conservatorium in Bulgaria, at the age of five. His early foundation in classical music was broadened by a family move to Teheran, Iran, where his father performed in the Shah’s Orchestra. Subsequent moves to East Germany, Austria, and Australia exposed Mario to a variety of musical mentors and global influences. Arriving in Los Angeles in 1992, Mario was quickly signed by Warner Brothers Records, releasing two albums, “Rhymes with Orange” and “Aria.” Mario toured Europe and North America as a concert pianist, while Aria reached #4 on Billboard’s classical Crossover chart. As a composer, Mario has scored over 20 films and documentaries, along with numerous commercials for clients such as BMW, MTV, Toyota, Siemens, Snapple, JCPenny, Mitsubishi, Crest and Converse. In the past year, he's composed music for several highly-regarded films: “Taxi to the Dark Side,” which won the Oscar for Best Documentary, “The Third Wave” was selected by Sean Penn for a first-ever President's Choice screening at Cannes, and “Precious” won both the Audience Award and Grand Jury Prize at Sundance. | ![]() |
